The Hunter’s Moon above the church of San Giovanni Evangelista

The Hunter’s Moon rises above the upper part of Modica, a city in southeastern Sicily included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2002. In this photograph, the full Moon appears above the Baroque church of San Giovanni Evangelista, whose spire marks the highest point in the city, at an elevation of 449 metres. The origins of this landmark date back to around the 12th century. However, the church was rebuilt in its present Baroque style following the devastating earthquake of 1693, which destroyed Modica and much of southeastern Sicily.
