Strawberry moon and Venus belt
This picture has been taken in Sampieri, a little village in the southern coast of Sicily. In the image, I captured the rising of the so-called "strawberry moon", the full moon of June. This full moon is noteworthy also because it imperfectly aligns with the Sun and the Earth producing the astronomical event called penumbral lunar eclipse. At the same time in the picture we can see the "Belt of Venus", a band which separates light from shadow in the atmosphere. Light is originating from the sun that was setting behind me and the dark band is the shadow of the earth. At last, the building is an ancient brick factory, an industrial archeology monument that has been declared a World Heritage Site from UNESCO.
